One of the biggest issues I see in society today is this…
Everybody is looking for motivation.
They ask me…
“Andy ... how do I get to be motivated all the time?”
“Andy … what do you do to stay motivated?”
Here’s the truth…
Nobody is motivated all the time.
NOBODY.
Successful people aren’t motivated 24/7.
They have days where they don’t feel like doing anything they need to get done…
They have days where they’d rather sleep in than get out of bed…
They have days where they'd rather order pizza than go to the gym…
It’s normal to not feel motivated.
The real difference between average people and successful people has nothing to do with motivation…
It has everything to do with self-discipline.
Self-discipline is all about doing what needs to get done when you don’t feel like doing it.
It’s going to the gym to train when you don’t want to.
It’s going to work and putting in your best effort when you don’t feel like it.
It’s waking up the first time your alarm goes off when you’d rather sleep in.
The good news for you is…
Discipline is not a gift that some people have and others don’t…
Discipline is a skill that you can develop through repetition.
How do you develop strong self-discipline?
Easy … with one good decision at a time.
One single action…
One link in the chain…
That’s it.
Whenever you feel the thoughts or feelings creep in about not wanting to do what needs to get done…
You have to pivot.
I call this the production pivot.
You have to immediately take action on what is going to help you reach your goals.
…and for that reason…
It’s not overwhelming.
It’s very simple, doable, and effective.
This is training your micro-discipline...
The small-scale things that will make a huge difference over time when you consistently execute on them.
When you get into the habit of consistently choosing the option that is going to help you reach your goals…
You finally get to a point where you possess macro-discipline.
Micro-discipline is when you’re preparing and engaging in a process.
Macro-discipline is the demonstration.
You can only develop macro-discipline when you practice micro-discipline consistently…
Day after day…
Week after week…
Month after month…
…and year after year.
All peak performers possess macro-discipline.
In fact, I’ll go as far as saying it’s not a part of who they are…
It IS who they are.
…and when you focus on being disciplined at a micro level…
You can develop macro-discipline as well.
One of the most overlooked benefits of being disciplined is the happiness that comes with it.
In fact, how you feel about yourself and your life is going to come down to your ability to cultivate self-discipline.
Understand this…
When you stick to the things you know you need to do for yourself and your goals…
It’s going to give you a great sense of accomplishment and confidence in your ability to execute.
With that comes happiness as well.
You’re not always going to have the motivation to do the things you need to do.
That’s why practicing self-discipline is so important.
Motivation isn’t going to take you where you want to go in life…
Only discipline will.
Really, all great things are rooted in discipline.
…and when you start practicing discipline in your life…
You’ll see why.
I promise.
How many people do you know who won't go out to try that one thing because they're scared of failing...
If I had to guess...
I'm sure you know quite a few.
I do too.
It's not uncommon to fear failure...
I truly believe that self-belief is one of the most powerful tools we all have access to.
The problem is, most people see belief as this magical entity that comes and goes at random.
The truth is, we manufacture our own self-belief.
It's through this manufactured self-belief that we're able to go out and accomplish amazing things in our lives...
We've all heard the saying "fake it till you make it."
They say if you make a conscious effort to be something you aren't ... eventually you'll become that person.
That's not how it works.
Pretending to be something you aren't is always a losing strategy...
