Human beings are social creatures.
It's in our nature to seek the acceptance of others.
So, in a way ... it's completely normal to care what other people think about you.
But if you're somebody who puts in countless hours to improve your craft and build the life of your dreams...
People are going to give you resistance...
...and this resistance is in the form of comments, remarks, and an overall misunderstanding of what it is you're trying to do and who you're trying to become.
When I first got started in business, I'd hear comments like these every day...
"When are you going to get a real job?"
"Are you still wasting your time at that little vitamin shop?"
"You need to be more realistic."
If you hear these comments too...
It's not that you're doing anything wrong...
These people just can't see outside the realm of what's possible for them.
So the actions you're taking to build your ultimate life intimidate them.
It makes them envious.
It makes them feel insecure about what they’ve accomplished…
...and it confuses them.
While there are some people who are legitimate "haters"...
Most people actually just want what's best for you...
But the truth is, they don't always know what's best for you.
Only you do.
These people are just trying to protect you from getting crushed by the burden of failure.
Can you really blame them?
Failure is all they know.
...and they only know what's possible in their lives ... not yours.
So you're going to get resistance when you go out to pursue big goals and dreams.
You just have to train yourself to stop caring what other people think.
You can't just snap your fingers and automatically not care what others think.
It doesn't work like that.
It's going to take time for you to develop this skill.
...and there's really only one way you can develop this skill...
It's by doing the work. Period.
Now, I'm sure you're thinking...
"How is doing the work going to help me not care what other people think ... and how are they even related?"
Good question.
Here's why...
I want you to think of it like this...
Let's say you're living the life of your dreams TODAY.
Would you really care if someone said your life sucks?
Of course not.
But why is that?
If other people's comments and thoughts don't bug you when you've built the life of your dreams...
Why does it bother you when you're in the process of creating the life of your dreams?
It's simple...
You haven't proven anything to yourself yet.
You don't have the self-confidence.
You don't have the self-belief.
You don’t have the self-respect.
You don't have the conviction ... yet.
Therefore, it matters to you what other people think.
But the minute you start doing big things for yourself and gaining some traction and momentum...
It no longer matters what other people think.
That's because you're too occupied with your visions and dreams.
You're too focused on doing what's important to you ... and not anybody else.
That's why you have to do the work.
The more wins you stack up...
The more progress you make...
...and the more you prove to yourself...
The less you'll feel like you have to prove to others...
...and the less you'll care about what others think.
The reason why you care what people think in the beginning of your journey is because you haven't built the confidence or self-belief you need.
If you're unsure if you even have what it takes to be successful...
It's going to bug you when somebody else tells you the same thing.
If you're not confident in your ability to execute...
It's going to bug you when somebody tells you the same thing.
Confidence and self-belief are skills that are also built through doing the work.
You have to prove you can do difficult things to yourself in order to really have belief in the fact that you can do difficult things.
So there's no question as to why you care what other people think...
Especially if you're in the beginning of your personal development journey.
Can I promise you that you're going to quit caring what others think?
No.
But I can promise you that if you put in the work to build the life of your dreams...
...you're going to start caring a lot less...
If at all.
But it's all up to you.
Just remember...
It's going to take time to develop the necessary skills.
Don’t let that discourage you.
Stay disciplined…
Keep showing up…
Keep executing…
Put one foot in front of the other.
The more you prove to yourself…
The less you’ll feel you have to prove to others…
…and the less you’ll care about what other people think.
