We've all heard the saying "fake it till you make it."

They say if you make a conscious effort to be something you aren't ... eventually you'll become that person.

But that's not how it works.

Pretending to be something you aren't is always a losing strategy.

Real winners don't think about how they're going to "fake" their way into the life, career, or status they want...

They take action as if they are already there, and they're just waiting for time to pass.

If you want to become the person you envision yourself becoming ... you have to act as if you're already that person.

So can you really "fake it till you make it?" No.

Can you raise your standards of performance to the level you need to be at in order to "make it?" Yes.

Understanding this difference is crucial if you truly want to build the life you say you want.

But how can you start acting like the person you want to become, and what does that even mean?

Let me explain...

You Can't Fake it Till You Make It

Like I already said...

You can't fake it till you make it.

But since we live in a culture where everything is instant, it's conditioned us to expect and want everything to happen now without putting in the work to get it.

Success in life works quite differently though.

Success is an endless road of twists, turns, and bumps ... and it's like this way for a long time before you ever get the slightest taste of results.

No matter what you do ... you can't "fake it till you make it".

You will never be able to bypass the blood, sweat, tears, and time it takes to become truly successful.

"Fake it till you make it" is just a phrase coined by people who think you can just show up, go through the motions, and if you do it for long enough ... eventually the life of your dreams will materialize.

Obviously, this isn't the case.

The only way to get where you want to go is by doing the work.

Act Like the Person You Want to Become

Take a second to think of the most successful people you know.

At one point, they were all beginners ... no different than you.

So, how did they get where they are today? Simple...

They didn't pretend to be skilled...

They built skills.

They didn't pretend to know everything...

They put in the time to learn what they needed to know.

They didn't pretend to lead the people around them...

They actually lead the people around them.

That's what got them where they are today.

Not by faking it, but by actually doing what it takes to become who they truly wanted to become.

That's what it means to act like the person you're trying to be.

It's identifying the life and person you want to become...

Then operating at the level you need to operate at in order to become that person.

It's that easy...

But the work isn't.

That's why so few people actually end up becoming who it is they truly want to become in their heart...

Because most people never step outside of their comfort zone or endure the hardship it takes to become successful.

If You Want to "Make It" ... Do This

I'm sure you're wondering what you can do to get started.

If the answer isn't obvious, I'd start here...

Take inventory of the life you want to live and the person you want to become.

What does your life look like?

How skilled are you?

What does your career look like?

What are the standards you uphold?

Who do you surround yourself with?

Once you've answered these questions for yourself ... you'll be able to form a picture and get an understanding of what skills and habits you need to develop to become that person.

It's through learning these skills and developing these habits that you'll start materializing the life you want.

If you're somebody who needs time to determine who it is you want to become...

At the bare minimum, you can start by investing in your discipline and standards ... which are both skills you'll need to be successful regardless of what you do.

This is where I'd recommend a program like 75 HARD. 75 HARD is a free transformative mental toughness program that will help you develop skills like mental toughness, discipline, fortitude, self-belief, self-worth, and much more.

Bottom line...

Faking it won't help you make it.

Create a vision of who you want to become...

Then elevate your skills, standards, and execution to the level they'll need to be for you to become that person.

That's how it works.
