As humans, we are hardwired to compete.

Competition is in our blood.

Competition is in our DNA.

...and competition is also a necessary element of becoming truly great.

Without competition, there is no growth.

There is no progress.

There is nothing to fuel innovation.

Competition is what will drive you to become the best possible version of yourself.

The biggest problem with society today is the idea that “everybody wins" and that you’ll get a trophy just for showing up and doing the things you should already be doing.

“Everybody wins” is not the reality of the world we live in.

Life is a competition.

It’s kill or be killed.

You don’t have to like it … But it’s the truth.

If you want the wins and the glory…

You have to compete.

You have to compete with your friends…

You have to compete with your coworkers…

You have to compete with other teams...

You have to compete with other businesses...

…and most importantly, you have to compete with yourself.

What Does It Mean to Compete With Yourself?

"Competing with yourself" is focusing on what you're doing ... Not what everybody else is doing.

It's investing your time, effort, and energy into becoming a better version of yourself instead of looking over at the other guy...

The other girl...

The other business...

...or the other anything else.

Successful people worry about their own lives.

They worry about their own actions.

They worry about their own execution.

They worry about their own progress.

That's what it means to compete with yourself.

You are taking the same time that everybody else spends worrying about their competition ... and making the conscious decision to focus on improving yourself instead.

Now, that doesn't mean you aren't actually in competition with other people ... You’re always in competition with others.

But it does mean that you're taking the time you would be worrying about what they're doing ... and using that time to work on yourself.

Take Your Focus Off Of Your Competition

If you focus on your competitors and follow in their footsteps...

The absolute best you'll ever be is behind them, in second place.

When you replicate your actions and game plan off of the formula somebody else is using...

You are replicating what you see today, which is a reflection of the ideas and work they began 2-3 years ago.

Everything takes time ... Which literally means that you will always be 2-3 years behind whoever it is you're copying.

You have to compete with yourself and create your own path.

Worrying about anybody else or trying to copy the dominant players will only limit you to their standards and potential.

Don't do it.

Why You Need to Compete With Yourself

Competing with yourself means consistently raising the bar.

It's the only way you'll ever be better than you were the day before.

This is how you become the best.

This is how you completely dominate your competition.

You aren't following in anybody else's footsteps...

You're innovating and creating a unique path of your own.

Alabama's football program didn't become one of the most dominant college football teams of all time under their coach Nick Saban because they focused on beating the other team...

It was because of Saban's commitment to having the team focus on playing their best game every single time.

This is the true value of competing with yourself.

You aren't just trying to one-up somebody else...

You're continually making progress toward becoming the greatest version of yourself that you can.

Start Competing With Yourself Now

If you're constantly looking around and worrying about everyone you're in competition with...

The best you'll ever be is second place.

You have to compete with yourself.
