Being Kind is Not What You Think...

Andy in meeting

If someone is truly kind to you…

And wants the very best for you…

They will not necessarily make you “feel good” all of the time.

Yes, there will be times when you need a hand & need someone to pick you up…

But other times, a true friend knows you need to face reality.

The fact of the matter is…

Reality doesn’t always feel good or sound good.

Reality stings…

Reality hurts…

It’s painful to have a real conversation.

But on the other hand…

False victimhood leads to a lifetime of regret and unhappiness.

And when you get addicted to the sweet pleasure of always “feeling good”…

You will always seek validation…

Not just for your successes…

But for your failures…

And you will try to justify your failures…

And feel good about them…

And as a result … you’ll continue to fail.

So when someone is always nice to you…

And always tries to make you feel good…

You should ask yourself…

“Is this person really being kind to me?”

Or “Is this person just reinforcing my mediocrity?”

A real friend is never afraid to call you out on your bullshit, and tell you the truth when you need to hear it.

Surround yourself with people who aren’t afraid to have the hard conversations...

And…

Make sure you’re also the friend that isn’t afraid to have the hard conversations with others.
