In any sport … the coach puts the BEST players in the game.
As the leader, their job is to set the team up with the best chance to win. Period.
So how is running a business any different?
It’s not.
But, I see too many people hold their entire company back, because they don’t understand this concept.
They’ll say shit like…
“Jack has worked here for 10 years, so he deserves the promotion.”
or…
“Suzie’s been here for a while ... she deserves to lead the new project.”
Bullshit.
If they’re not the best person for the job ... do they deserve the shot?
NO.
When you give someone an opportunity based completely on how long they’ve been working for you…
You’re telling everyone else that the results they produce don’t matter.
This breeds mediocrity in your company … which will ultimately lead to its collapse.
I don’t care if you’ve been working here for 10 years or 10 minutes…
If you're the best at what you do ... you’re playing in the game.
If you suck, you’re on the sidelines.
Running a business any other way is a losing recipe.
