There's an old saying that goes like this...
“Being a great person is like being a goaltender - no matter how many goals you save, some people will only remember the one that you missed.”
This is very true, especially when you're interacting with customers.
You could have the perfect track record for 10 years with a customer...
And the one time you slip up by telling them a lie, or being rude...
...or even not giving them the attention they are accustomed to...
They will forget about all the great interactions they had with you, and remember that single bad one.
Not fair?
Trust me, I know it.
Too bad.
This also applies to leadership.
See, if you yell at your team for screwing around on their phones at work…
You better not do the same.
If you get caught doing that as the leader...
You will forever be seen as a liar by your team…
And nobody will respect you, or listen to you.
Do what you say you are going to do.
Be who you say you are going to be.
Don’t just say it…
LIVE IT.
There is no other way.
Because if you slip one time…
Even for one tiny moment…
You will forever be looked at as the goalie who missed.
...and when you miss...because you will...
Own it & make it right.
